Domain Road is a specialist producer of cool climate wines from two
vineyards in Bannockburn, Central Otago. Domain Road Vineyard is
situated on Domain Road, Defiance Vineyard on nearby Felton Road. Very
cold winters contrast with hot dry summers in Central Otago, an ideal
climate for difficult grape varieties. Dedicated hands-on care of the
vines during each season allows the harvest of outstanding grapes.

The town of Bannockburn has a long history of gold prospecting and
the vineyard site on Domain Road has been part of that history for
almost 150 years. The vineyard takes advantage of its gold mining legacy
to determine the location of each planting of Pinot Noir, Sauvignon
Blanc and Riesling vines. Soil types feature quality loam soils, free
draining schist gravels, and mineral rich ‘pipe
clay’, named for the white clay used to make tobacco pipes by the early
gold miners. The quality of these soils combined with the unique aspect
of the vineyard, situated in its own small valley, produces award
winning wines of outstanding quality, produced to reflect the terroir of
the vineyard.
